Wintry Mountains Covered with Snow and Xuyuan Print Centre
Master of Xuyuan
A few weeks ago when Mr. Liu Kuo-sung came to Xuyuan, I regretfully informed him that Mr.Li Chu-tsing2 had passed away a few days prior, at the age of ninety-four. Coincidentally, being recreated at Xuyuan's woodblock print studio, Wintry Mountains Covered with Snow is the very painting that caught Mr. Li's attention and changed Liu Kuo-sung's life. It all happened fifty-one years ago.
Today, Mr. Liu Kuo-sung is eminent throughout China and abroad, and his artworks are treasured in prestigious museums including the British Museum and the Palace Museum in Beijing, as well as respected private collections such as the Master of the Water, Pine and Stone Retreat (Hugh Moss), who has devoted a portion of his castle estate in England for displaying Liu's paintings. As of 2014, Hong Kong's Sotheby's, Christie's, Poly, and Guardian auctions all feature highlights from every period of Mr. Liu's career, which sufficiently illustrates his popularity...
"Early ink painting master" and "experimental ink painting master" are the titles that testify Mr.Liu Kuo-sung's extraordinary position in Chinese art history. And as of this moment, with the teamwork of Taipei's Loftyart Gallery's Richard MC Chang and Elaine Suyu Liu with Beijing's Xuyuan, a new era of Liu Kuo-sung's art will commence.
Xuyuan International Print Centre began official operation two years ago today, and currently aims to become the world's largest print centre, with the most diverse print types and the friendliest environment. According to Mr. Liu Kuo-sung; this is not simply a printmaking studio, but an artist's laboratory.
As literati painting for Westerners, the art of printmaking is an acquired taste, which requires both material and aesthetic wealth. Although I am not a man of many words, I hereby state my strong belief that Liu Kuo-sung, Loftyart Gallery, and Xuyuan Print Centre's close teamwork will dawn like the sun, rising in the renaissance of Chinese culture, becoming a new formidable force.
