钟曦 (Zhong Xi)
b. 1963, Yichun, Jiangxi province
Zhong Xi graduated from the Department of Fine Art at the Jiangxi Normal University in 1986 and three years later completed a further course of study at The Central Academy of Fine Art. Amongst his many roles, he holds the post of Professor at The Academy of Arts at Shenzhen University. His artworks are featured in The China Gallery of Fine Art and The Guangdong Gallery of Fine Art collections, amongst others.
Zhong Xi describes the process of creation as an important medium for any artist to attain a link with the human spirit and develop the formation of creative ideas. The artworks created before 1955, predominantly screen prints, reflect a concern for one's mode of life and the anxieties that arise in contemporary life. The works following this period could be interpreted as addressing the pursuit of overcoming an emotionless society. These two periods are stark contrast to his current theme which seems to be steering away from manufactured-looking prints and moving closer towards creating a handmade and individual final piece.
